** ABOUT the ON PURPOSE WOMAN COMMUNITY **

The On Purpose Woman Community was founded in March 2000. There are 10 monthly meetings around Maryland and one in Virginia, with other in-state and out-of-state locations planned.

If you have not visited us, come on out and see why women love this community. And if you have visited with us before, I hope you'll come and see us again!

Women tell me that they are drawn to the heart-centered way we approach our businesses and each other. They love the ease of connecting with new women and reconnecting with those they have met before and the support they receive from one another.

While many of the women who attend are entrepreneurs, our meetings are open to all women. Are you retired or have you lost your job and looking for what your "next thing" may be? Let us help make this time of transition easier and more fun! Maybe you're a stay-at-home mom looking for some adult connections and a little down time. Come and hang out with us! Students, corporate/government employees, non-profit heads...there is a place at our table for all of you! Thinking of starting a business? Then you definitely want to make these connections.

And...invite your women friends to come with you!

"GETTING THROUGH THE 50 SHADES OF GRAY IN YOUR LIFE USING THE SILVER LINING PRINCIPLE" With KAREN KUKURIN

How do you deal with defeat? Disappointment? Challenges? When bad things happen, our thinking tends to become cloudy and gray, even dark as we focus on the negative. But, what if I told you many of the unpleasant experiences in life may be guide posts or messages meant to lead you to a better place?

“There's a silver lining in every cloud,” is more than just a saying. Let me show you how to embrace the silver lining principle and show you how it can switch your perceptions and overcome obstacles in your life more quickly. I will discuss the different types of silver linings there are and how you can use them to change the trajectory of your life for the better. Even the smallest negative events can be changed into positive affirmations instantly. By living this way, you'll see your glass of life half full, rather than half empty and attract the things you most desire.

Over her 30-year career, Karen Kukurin has served as Deputy Director for the Office of the Governor of California, broke the glass ceiling when she became the first woman Vice President in the 100-year-old history of one of the nation's largest employer associations, formed her own Beverly Hills-based public relations firm and was Assistant PR Director for the Tournament of Roses Assn. During this time she journaled, discovering the practice invaluable in helping her make decisions, find solutions to problems and attracting success. This practice led to the creation of a three-step journaling program, which includes the Principle of the Silver Lining.

"MODERN Q & A: GAMIFIED CONNECTION" With ELLEN KORONET

Gamification is an emerging “buzzword” in the business world (along with “Customer Journey Mapping,” “Big Data,” and other dichotomous concepts). The ideas behind some of these concepts are perfectly suited for entrepreneurial commerce.

We will redefine marketing and identify the keys to engagement. We will explore the phenomenon of quizzes and typing tools to expand your audience, engage with potential customers early on, and streamline the path to purchasing with authenticity and joy. We will use OPW member quizzes as examples. You will…

1. Redefine “marketing” as “wholistic” [sic]
2. Learn how to “gamify” your marketing efforts to attract more of your best customers
3. Energize your marketing efforts by engaging with your audience: Learn how to meet them where they are.

Ellen Koronet designs and hosts interactive quizzes and assessments to expand reach, generate warm leads, and interact with customers. She conducts innovation training forindividuals and groups to up-level problem- solving and leadership. She is the publisher and author of the Inner Muse & Mentor Creativity guidebook and picture deck. An Anthropologist by training, she spent over three decades as a focus group moderator
and marketing research executive, serving Fortune 500 corporations. At conferences such as Florida Creativity Weekend, MD Business Women, QRCA, On Purpose Woman, a Robotics Team, and Communication Central, she applies deep insight to business and personal conundrums.

"Straw into Gold: Turning Failure into Business Growth & Freedom" with Kay Loughrey

Business success requires living up to our full potential and seeing failure as a stepping stone for business and personal growth. Yet, too often, old messages, beliefs, and feelings from past trauma cause us to settle for less. The main reason for this talk is to share how we can use awakening moments to disrupt old patterns and release the past. Then we can discover how to come home and feel good about ourselves again, practice strategies to build our strengths and live up to our full potential in our relationships, health, and business.

Kay Loughrey is a speaker, health and weight loss coach and dietitian-nutritionist who addresses both inner and outer health issues. She helps people conquer food triggers, turn trauma into growth and freedom, lose weight, and get their joyful life back with her private coaching services offered nationwide.

“WHAT’S RUNNING YOU? HOW TO RESHAPE YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS DRIVERS" WIth JENNIFER HEWAT

If you’re like me you find yourself doing what you don't want to do, and not doing what you want to do! Choosing the robotic automatic option for the sake of familiarity and safety: in my work, in my family life, and in my marriage. Very few of us are conscious of the daily choices we make out of habit that actually don't serve us. I know I wasn't. Until recently, I’d put an old childhood trauma out of my conscious mind as dealt with, and had no idea of the power of my subconscious to keep it running in a subterranean zone until eventually it burst through to the surface. Then IT ran ME. It ran my emotions, putting me constantly on guard, needing to be perfect or something else awful would happen. It ran my BODY manifesting as Chronic Fatigue, Systemic Candida, and food allergies. Since then I’ve learned how to shed layers of self blame and pain in exchange for healing, growing and more conscious awareness using a modality called Faster EFT (Emotionally Focused Transformation). Using tapping on your energy meridians, it reaches and releases those subconscious drivers that are quietly – or noisily - draining your vitality.

Are you ready to be rid of stuck reruns playing havoc with your body and emotions?

"ALIGNING YOUR LIVING & WORKING SPACE WITH YOUR INNER SOUL EXPRESSION" With SHERRY BURTON WAYS

As we consciously begin to recognize our role in being the interior designers of our own lives and spaces, we can consciously choose to design them in a very focused, integral (body, mind and spirit) way. Consciously designing our lives and spaces in this way can bring us the fulfillment we desire.

Sherry Burton Ways, CEO/Principal of SBW Aligned Expressions, will discuss how you can examine the current state of your living or working space, to honestly determine whether you are thriving or merely surviving. When you are absolutely fulfilled and satisfied with a living or working space, you are thriving. When you are not satisfied with your living or working space, you are merely surviving. What would your home or office look like if you designed it with conscious focus and attention? What would your home or office look like and feel like for you in each area of your life?

Life is constantly bringing you new challenges and new learning opportunities. When you become more purposeful by consciously choosing and designing your living or working space, you will find yourself attracting more opportunities to experience real heart-felt satisfaction. To create the home or office of your dreams, you must develop the courage to create! You create (consciously or not) through your intentions, your beliefs, and your actions.

Sherry will share her process of how to focus on what you really want in your interior and couple that clear desire with a vision that represents it and how you can move toward the create the space of your dreams without blowing your budget. Her discussion will highlight the key element in discovering your true desires begins with establishing a fully expressed soul purpose statement for yourself. This involves focusing your attention on the essence of who you are. It involves recognizing your true soul passions and how your living or working space will serve you in multiple ways. Your living space will give meaning to your work, your relationships, your choices and your life! It involves an intuitive feeling of being perfectly aligned with your living space, being alive and being in this world. Sherry describes it as “Aligned Expression Design.” However, you describe it, her talk will help powerfully shape the direction of your life and living environment.

Sherry Burton Ways is the CEO and Interior Design Principal of her new brand, SBW Aligned Expressions, located in Silver Spring, MD. Through SBW Aligned Expressions, Sherry taps into who you really are, then plans, organizes and designs interiors that are a full expression of her client. Whether it’s “seaside serenity” or “Moroccan luxury”, Sherry utilizes her expert planning, organizing, and design sense to pick out just the right decorating pieces that align and work wonderfully in your space. Sherry’s designs help transform rooms into spaces that serve as inspiration and supportive of client’s dreams, ambitions and overall lifestyle. She deeply believes that our spaces can become a conduit for tapping into our potential and allow us to live in full expression of our true selves.

Her design work and perspectives have appeared in several local and national media including The Washington Post, Washingtonian Magazine, 2011 MD, DC, VA Portfolio of the 100 Top Designers by Home & Design Magazine, and Design Bureau Magazine’s Special Edition: Inspiring Interiors: A Collection of the Best Interior Design Around the World.

Sherry has been quoted in Essence Magazine, Popsugar, Forbes.com, Rodale’s Organic Life Magazine and have been interviewed on national and international blog talk radio shows, CBS Radio and WBAL (Baltimore) Channel 11. She is the author of the 2012 award winning book, "Feel Good Spaces: A Guide to Decorating Your Home for the Body, Mind, & Spirit". Her follow up release “Landing on Your Feet and Putting Down Roots: 21 Rituals to Transform Your life and Interior Space,” is due Fall 2017.
