Michele "Wojo" Wojciechowski - Finding the Funny: Using Humor to Cope with Change or Challenges in Life
We all go through times in our lives that are challenging or full of change. So how can we get through them? One way is by using humor.
Michele Wojciechowski explains why it's important to have humor in our lives and how we can go about finding it-especially during the tough times. Since she was a kid, Wojo has been funny. She began by telling her first jokes, which she read on Dixie cups then moved on to impressions of Vinnie Barbarino from the '70s show "Welcome Back Kotter." When her aunts and their friends began to pay her quarters to do this, a professional comic was born. She even gave a commencement speech at her kindergarten graduation. Seriously...Today, Michele "Wojo" Wojciechowski is a national award-winning freelance writer and humorist, who writes the humor column, Wojo's World™. In addition, her writing has appeared in the LA Times Magazine, Family Circle, Boys' Life, the BaltimoreSun.com, the Chicago Tribune's RedEye.com, PT in Motion, Maryland Life, Baltimore magazine, Baltimore's Child, countless college and university alumni magazines, and many other publications and websites in the stratosphere. Besides writing for publications, Wojo writes and performs standup comedy, including at the 2012, 2010, 2008, and 2006 Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshops, The Baltimore Comedy Factory, E.M.P. Collective Theater, restaurants, coffee shops, street corners, and other places where she wouldn't get arrested.Wojo's humor book, Next Time I Move, They'll Carry Me Out in a Box, came out September 2012. Since giving her first speech at age six, Wojo has loved public speaking. She has spoken on the humor panel at the annual conference of the American Society of Journalists and Authors many times (including in 2012) and was a faculty member and speaker at the 2012 Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop. She also speaks to business groups and has assisted many with her humorous and informative talks covering publicity, marketing, getting over the fear of public speaking, adding humor to your life and business, and many others that this sheet of paper is too small to include. Stepping Into Greater Leadehship with Andrea Hylen
Building a business, networking, using our voice more in the world, all requires stepping into greater leadership. Andrea Hylen, the founder of Heal My Voice, will share her personal journey of leadership and the FIVE Keys that have been the most important in growing and expanding her mission: Empowering women and girls to heal a story, reclaim their personal power and step into greater leadership at the dinner table, in the community and in the world. This will be a discussion of the behind the scenes growth of a Leader including the vulnerability, freedom, tears and fears and what we don't always talk about in public. This will be experiential. Andrea will guide us in discovering the next steps of leadership in our own lives. Join us for the experience! Andrea Hylen is the Founder of Heal My Voice and Live a Life Worth Celebrating. Both organizations are dedicated to healing grief, loss and trauma and guiding the way to a life lived from a deeper, richer place. The businesses emerged out of her willingness to look at life fearlessly and ask the question, "Why?' Heal My Voice programs provide a safe haven for women to write their personal stories and in the process experience a profound healing. In the writing, gentle reading and editing, listening and support, using vulnerability as power, the voices of women emerge clearer and stronger. Heal My Voice has ongoing book circle projects and workshops for women to heal a story in their lives in circles with women. The next book circle project is called Voices of Peace.
